THE STORY BEHIND THIS TEE
He has been sitting in the snow long enough for it to accumulate on his hat. The machine is still running.
A samurai in kasa and mino sits in a snowfield at night, facing a vending machine stocked entirely with bonsai trees. The machine glows warm against the dark. Snow has settled on his hat, his cape, the roof of the machine. He is not selecting anything. He is not leaving. He is watching.
The bonsai is the practice of decades-long attention applied to a single living thing — shaping, waiting, returning. The vending machine is its opposite: instant, transactional, always available. He is sitting between them in the snow. He has found no contradiction.
The seal reads 静観. Still observation. The snow is also doing this.
